The market has been ignoring the possibility that the Trump economy may not be all that much better than it’s been under Barack Obama, despite all the pro-growth noise Trump has been making. Maybe cutting taxes and reducing regulations won’t lead to spectacular growth, even if it does goose the stock market for a year or two. Nor do economists think Trump’s policies would substantially increase the economy’s supply side, or its potential growth rate, which is largely determined by population increases and productivity gains.
